Kelly commenced her Criminal Law pupilage in November 2020 under the supervison of Anne Richardson
Before becoming a member of the Bar, Kelly had a career in Sales, she developed a successful business in 2004 with the help of the Prince’s Trust and later went on to win a ‘Business start-up’ Entrepreneur of the year award in 2005 for her Equestrian retail business.
Kelly studied for the Bar whilst working full-time and being a parent to her two children. She has therefore utilised excellent time management skills and shown a high level of commitment to her work.
Her strong communication skills and personable nature means that she has a natural ability to successfully network between both professional and lay clients and her preparation and analysis of cases means that she offers pertinent and reasoned advice. Kelly has a cheerful sense of humour that can immediately put people at ease, this attribute has also enabled her to deal with some of the more emotionally charged cases that she has encountered in her pupillage.
Kelly is also an Ambassador for The Open University and has spent the last two years mentoring and training students within their Open Justice Policy Clinics and Street Law projects. This has furthered her ability to engage with students and tutors on a far-reaching level. She has further developed her skills of communication and the use of various digital platforms.
Kelly is Dere Street’s first specialist crime only pupil and as such is under the supervision of Anne Richardson. Having been seconded to the CPS in the latter part of her pupillage Kelly has a wider knowledge of the prosecution procedure from the review and allocation stage through to prosecution and as such has become a prosecuting agent as part of her role for the CPS.
Kelly accepts instructions in both Prosecution and Defence.
