synopsis

Julie undertakes all types of criminal cases for both prosecution and defence. She has substantial experience of dealing with vulnerable defendants and witnesses, regularly undertaking serious sex cases. These range from historic sexual abuse within families or institutions to serial rape. She deals with cases of homicide including child cruelty and death by dangerous driving, large-scale fraud or drug dealing conspiracies, serious violence and aggravated arson. Julie has also acquired significant experience in dealing with intellectual property offences and regulatory offences relating to animal welfare.

This year Julie has successfully defended historic sexual allegations dating back more than 40 years, successfully prosecuted a case of sadistic child abuse requiring the 13 year old witness to give evidence of abuse occurring over the preceding 6 years and is currently dealing with a case involving sexual abuse of children in a care home in the 1980s.

As well as offences of violence and drug trafficking Julie has dealt with illegal money lending, trading in counterfeit goods, stealing from employers and benefit fraud this year.

In addition, Julie has dealt with several cases where the defendants have been unfit to be tried or have required a psychiatric disposal or were mentally unwell e.g. An offence of conspiracy to commit aggravated arson by a young defendant whose brother had been the alleged victim of sexual abuse at the hands of a family member who lived in a house which was petrol bombed by the offender and others.
