synopsis

Euan Duff is a circuiteer of the old school but who has embraced modern technology and uses it effectively in the conduct of his practice. Rooted in the North East he began his career at 51, Westgate Road, the predecessor to Broad Chare Chambers, before the creation of Dere Street Chambers. He now specialises exclusively in crime and related areas such as civil liberties. He prosecutes and defends in all areas of serious crime and is a Grade 4 prosecutor and on the Attorney General's Unified A list of advocates. He has prosecuted and defended in many murder cases and has an extensive history of conducting the most serious sexual cases for both defence and crown.

He is a Crown Court Recorder authorised to try both Class 2 (serious sexual) cases and Civil cases in the County Court. He is also a Judge of the First Tier Tribunal sitting in the Immigration and Asylum Chamber. He has been Chairman of two Independent Inquiries appointed by the North East Strategic Health Authority into the care and treatment of patients who committed murders (one a single killing and the other a quadruple homicide) and is currently Chairing a third such inquiry.

In the wider sphere he is Deputy Chancellor of the Diocese of Newcastle and also a Deputy Lieutenant for Tyne and Wear.
