synopsis

Deborah qualified initially as a solicitor and worked in a leading firm in Kingston upon Hull which specialised in Criminal and Family Law. She was head of the Family department there for 15 years, and specialised in children work.

She trained in mediation, was appointed as a Mentor with the Solicitors Family Law Association (now Resolution) and a Peer Reviewer for the Legal Services Commission.

She was a member of The Law Society’s Children Panel and acquired Higher Rights of Audience.

Since being called to the Bar she has continued to specialise in Public Law children work representing Local Authorities, parents, and children (direct and through Cafcass, The Official Solicitor and the National Youth Advocacy Service) and recently has concentrated on complex cases involving serious non accidental injuries, allegations of Fabricated Illness and sexual abuse.

She also regularly appears on private law children matters, Residence and Contact applications and applications for permanent removal of children from the Jurisdiction.
